Does divorce occur if a man says to his young daughter four times, "Your mother is divorced," by way of jest, and his wife hears that?

If a husband explicitly pronounces the word of divorce (talaq), it takes effect whether he intended divorce or not, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "There are three matters, serious when serious, and serious when joked about: marriage, divorce, and revocation." If the husband repeats the word of divorce and only intended to confirm the first one, or to inform about it, then only one divorce occurs. However, if he intended to initiate divorce with each utterance, or had no intention at all, scholars have differed. The majority hold that she becomes irrevocably divorced from him (baynunah kubra) and is not lawful for him until she marries another husband. Some, however, are of the view that it is only a single divorce. The correct approach is for the divorcing party to go to the Sharia courts in their country to act upon what they instruct.
