What is the ruling on a wife ordering purchases online with her own money and receiving them without the knowledge of her husband, who might be upset by that and restrict her?
The wife must obey him and be a good companion to him, which necessitates Allah's love and pleasure for her. Allah Almighty said: "Men are guardians over women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; so good women are obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah has guarded." (An-Nisa, 34). Part of her obedience to him is not to permit anyone to enter his house except with his permission, nor to allow the delivery of goods to the house door when the husband is present. If the husband is not present, then it is forbidden to prevent entry for "al-Mugheebat" - meaning women whose husbands are absent. If he does not agree, the goods can be delivered in the husband's name or a relative's name to their address to avoid suspicions and disputes.
