Is the Friday ghusl also obligatory for women?

The Friday ghusl (ritual bath) is a Sunnah (recommended act) for anyone who intends to attend the Friday prayer, whether male or female, child or traveler, or slave. This is because the purpose of the ghusl is cleanliness, and it is prescribed for anyone who comes to Friday prayer, even though men are specifically addressed regarding attendance in the verse: (O YOU WHO HAVE BELIEVED, WHEN [THE ADHAN FOR] PRAYER IS CALLED ON FRIDAY, THEN PROCEED TO THE REMEMBRANCE OF ALLAH AND LEAVE TRADE. THAT IS BETTER FOR YOU, IF YOU ONLY KNEW). Some scholars have held the view that it is obligatory. Imam An-Nawawi, however, believes it is a Sunnah for anyone who wishes to attend the Friday prayer, and that a woman should perform ghusl for Friday if she intends to witness it. This view is supported by some narrations and statements from the Companions and their successors.
