A man wants to embrace Islam, but he fears circumcision. What is the ruling?
A new Muslim man must hasten to embrace Islam before death. As for circumcision, it is not a condition for entering Islam. If he can perform circumcision without harm, he should do so; otherwise, it is not obligatory for him. Ibn Qudamah said: "If an elderly man embraces Islam and fears for himself from circumcision, it is waived for him. If he is safe, then it is obligatory for him to perform it." Abu Abdullah was asked about a Dhimmi (a non-Muslim living under Islamic rule) who embraces Islam, whether he is purified by circumcision. He said: "He must do that." And if he was elderly, he said: "It is more beloved to me that he purifies himself."
