How could the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, curse, revile, and insult, considering his saying: "The believer is not one who slanders, curses, or utters obscenities or foul language," and Allah Almighty's saying: "And indeed, you are of a great moral character"?

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursing any Muslim who does not deserve the curse makes it a mercy and a purification for that person from Allah the Almighty. This is indicated by the Hadith in Sahih Muslim: "O Allah, I am only a human being. So, any Muslim whom I have cursed, or insulted, or lashed, make it a purification and a mercy for him." The people of knowledge have considered this a virtue for those Companions whom he cursed. As for his cursing of those who deserve to be cursed, it is permissible for him. The term "La''an" (one who curses excessively) is an exaggerated description meaning "frequently cursing," and this quality is absent from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
