What is the ruling on someone who always mocks people and comments on every minor and major thing, whether correct or incorrect?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Mocking people is forbidden, based on the words of Allah Almighty: (O YOU WHO HAVE BELIEVED, LET NOT A PEOPLE MOCK [ANOTHER] PEOPLE; PERHAPS THEY MAY BE BETTER THAN THEM; NOR LET WOMEN MOCK [OTHER] WOMEN; PERHAPS THEY MAY BE BETTER THAN THEM. AND DO NOT INSULT ONE ANOTHER AND DO NOT CALL EACH OTHER BY OFFENSIVE NICKNAMES. WRETCHED IS THE NAME OF SINFULNESS AFTER FAITH. AND WHOEVER DOES NOT REPENT - THEN IT IS THOSE WHO ARE THE WRONGDOERS). The mocker does not know that the one being mocked might be of higher and greater status with Allah. By mocking, one places oneself in a higher position, believing in one's own perfection, while Allah has prohibited the self-praise of souls, saying: (SO DO NOT PURIFY YOURSELVES; HE IS MOST KNOWING OF WHO FEARS HIM), and His saying: (HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THOSE WHO PURIFY THEMSELVES? RATHER, ALLAH PURIFIES WHOM HE WILLS, AND THEY WILL NOT BE WRONGED, [EVEN AS MUCH AS] A THREAD).
