There are multiple narrations regarding Sawdah bint Zamʿah giving up her night to ʿAʾishah, may Allah be pleased with them both. The most authentic among them are: Sawdah's fear that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would divorce her due to her old age, and her desire to please the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, knowing his love for ʿAʾishah. The narration that says he divorced her and then took her back is weak, and the narration that says he intended to divorce her has not been reported in an authentic hadith. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, married Sawdah when she was old, and he did not marry her out of desire.
