Is it permissible to pay a bribe to replace an innovative mosque imam who dislikes the Sunnis?

It is not permissible to appoint an innovator who despises the people of the Sunnah as an Imam (leader) for the Muslims. The ruler is obligated not to appoint anyone except those known for the soundness of their belief and their adherence to the Sunnah. The congregants are permitted to demand his removal. Bribery is forbidden, and it may be permissible in cases of necessity to ward off harm, but it is better to avoid it. It is recommended to teach religious knowledge and to provide qualified individuals, and to gently engage the Imam in dialogue to introduce him to the methodology of the Salaf.
