Is it permissible for the mosque community to change the imam of the mosque without his knowledge or notification after his appointment, knowing that he does not receive a salary and that the mosque is temporary and not affiliated with the Awqaf?

The authority for appointing an Imam in mosques not affiliated with the Awqaf (Endowments Ministry) rests with the people of the mosque. They choose the Imam and do not remove him without a valid reason. Mosques are of two types: Sultaniyya (state-controlled), where the ruler appoints the Imam, and general, where the people choose the Imam by mutual consent. An Imam who has been agreed upon may not be dismissed unless his condition changes. If the people of the mosque differ in their choice, the opinion of the majority is followed. If the differing parties are equal, the ruler makes the choice. The congregation does not have the right to change the Imam after having accepted him, unless his condition changes, and he should be informed of this.
