This is based on the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "If you say to your companion on Friday, while the Imam is delivering the sermon, 'Listen attentively,' then you have engaged in idle talk." It is recommended to awaken a sleeping person during the sermon by action, not by speech, such as by gently nudging them with the hand.
