Can a sleeping person see warning dreams, and is it forbidden to tell one's family about such dreams?

What a person sees in their sleep is of three types: a true vision (ru'ya) from Allah, which is the sighting of something beloved, for which it is sunnah to praise Allah and to speak of it to those one loves; a bad dream (hulm) from Satan, which is something disliked that the sleeper sees, and for which it is sunnah to seek refuge [with Allah] from it, to spit to the left three times, not to speak of it, to change one's side, and to pray two rak'ahs; and self-talk or "confused dreams" (adghath ahlam), which are events and fears that the subconscious mind reconstructs and have no interpretation. The true vision is a part of prophethood; it is glad tidings or a warning from Allah. As for the bad dream, it is meant by Satan to grieve the believer. When one sees something disliked, it is recommended to spit to the left, seek refuge from Satan, change one's side, pray, and not speak of it. The righteousness of a person while awake is most important, and the vision delights the believer but does not deceive him.
