What is the ruling on opening an Islamic bookstore to sell Islamic books, tapes, and Qur'ans? And what is the ruling on selling tapes by some shaykhs who make mistakes in actions and statements, such as not growing a beard and asking the general public to do so, knowing that these tapes have helped many to become more religious?

The People of the Sunnah and the Community (Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah) must follow the Book of Allah in justice and fairness, and keep away from oppression and ignorance. Preachers should be dealt with equitably, as they are of various types: some are upon the methodology of the Salaf, some fall short in their actions, some mix their correct views with errors, and some are innovators (Ahl al-Bid'ah) or polytheists (Ahl al-Shirk). It is necessary to distinguish between a sin (ma'siyah), an innovation (bid'ah), and an error (khata'). We should praise the good deeds of preachers and correct their errors, unless it is an innovation or polytheism, in which case one should shun them and warn others against them.
