Is it permissible to supplicate for the fulfillment of a future matter that includes inherent goodness, such as saying: "O Allah, grant me goodness in my travels"? And what is the appropriate wording for such a supplication?

It is prescribed for a servant to ask Allah to facilitate an affair and to make it good. It is permissible for him to supplicate for the facilitation of what he seeks and to perform Istikhara (prayer for guidance) regarding the matter. This is indicated by the supplication that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, taught to Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her: "O Allah, I ask You for all good, both immediate and delayed, what I know of it and what I do not know. And I seek refuge in You from all evil, both immediate and delayed, what I know of it and what I do not know. O Allah, I ask You for the best of what Your servant and Prophet asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from the worst of what Your servant and Prophet sought refuge in You from. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and what brings one closer to it of word or deed, and I seek refuge in You from the Hellfire and what brings one closer to it of word or deed. And I ask You to make every decree You have decreed for me good." And in another narration: "And whatever decree You have decreed for me, make its outcome guidance for me."

As the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also said: "If one of you wishes, let him wish for much, for he is only asking his Lord." Al-Manawi explained this to mean that one should multiply his wishes, magnify his desire, and broaden his request.
