Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbid backgammon, and is the game of Snakes and Ladders considered backgammon?

The game of Snakes and Ladders relies on dice, does not involve testing intelligence or physical effort, and is considered a waste of time and weakens a child's energies. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, issued hadiths prohibiting playing with dice, among them: "Whoever plays with nardashir (backgammon) is as if he dipped his hand in the flesh and blood of a pig," and "Whoever plays with dice has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger." The jurists from the Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali schools have agreed on the prohibition of playing with dice, whether for a prize or not, due to the conjecture and foolishness involved.
