Is brown discharge after menstruation considered part of it, or does it obligate prayer and fasting? And what is the duration of dryness as a sign of purity? And is brown discharge that appears after a period of dryness considered istihadah (irregular bleeding) or kudrah (brownish discharge)? And what is the ruling on saying, "By God, were it not for my fear of abandoning the obligatory duties, I would not have asked"?
Brown discharge after the end of the menstrual period and achieving purity is not considered menstruation and does not prevent prayer or fasting, based on the statement of Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her): "We did not consider the brownish or yellowish discharge after purity to be anything."
If a woman sees dryness, she should promptly perform ghusl (ritual bath), based on the statement of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "It is not permissible for her, if she sees purity for even an hour, except that she performs ghusl."
This opinion is more cautious and absolves one of responsibility. There is another opinion that permits waiting for a certain period after seeing dryness if it occurs within the customary menstrual period.
