Is it permissible to seek divorce because the husband disparages his wife's appearance and describes her as unattractive, adding that "my father laughed at him and gave him a short one"?

It is obligatory for both spouses to treat each other kindly. The husband must be good to his wife and not harm her or revile her, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "And do not revile the face," meaning, do not say that it is ugly. This prohibition includes ugly words and actions towards the wife. Therefore, the husband is advised to fear Allah and treat his wife kindly, and the wife is advised to be patient and offer gentle advice. If he does not change, then there is no blame upon her for seeking a divorce.
