If a husband has intercourse with his wife during the daytime in Ramadan, does she have to offer expiation?

Sexual intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan invalidates the fast. In this situation, the woman has two cases:

Case 1: She is excused (coerced, forgetful, or ignorant of the prohibition). In this case, her fast is valid, and she is not required to make up the fast nor offer expiation. This is the view preferred by Sheikh Ibn Baz and Ibn Uthaymeen, who cite the Almighty's saying: (Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make a mistake) and the hadith: "Whoever eats forgetfully while he is fasting, let him complete his fast" and "Indeed, Allah has overlooked for my Ummah mistakes, forgetfulness, and what they are coerced into."

Case 2: She is not excused and willingly complies with her husband. Here, scholars differed on two opinions:

The first opinion (the majority): She must make up the fast and offer expiation, just as it is obligatory upon the man, because she violated the sanctity of the fast by willingly engaging in sexual intercourse. This opinion was preferred by Sheikhs Ibn Baz and Ibn Uthaymeen.

The second opinion (Shafi'is and one narration from Ahmad): Expiation is obligatory upon the husband alone, and nothing is due from the woman, arguing that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered the man to offer expiation and did not mention the woman. However, it was rebutted that the lack of mention might be because the man was the one seeking the fatwa.
