It is sunnah for a man to fondle his wife before intercourse to put her at ease, soften her, and arouse her desire so that she may attain the pleasure of intercourse. As the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Jabir: "Why not a virgin whom you fondle and who fondles you?" A man can also ask his wife what she likes in terms of foreplay.
