What is your opinion regarding the argument of those who reject the Sunnah, claiming that the abundance of weak and fabricated hadiths has undermined trust in it?
This statement belongs to heretics and deviants. It is true that there were fabricators and liars who concocted sayings and attributed them to the Messenger, but it was not that simple; there were trustworthy, upright narrators and scholars who surrounded the Messenger's hadith with a strong fence, and they were able to identify the fabricators and pinpoint everything falsely attributed to him. These fabricators were not given free rein to tamper with the Prophet's hadith or infiltrate among the trustworthy narrators without being known. The brilliant guardians of the religion were the ones who exposed the lies of the disbelievers and heretics, and they defined fabricated hadith, its types, and its signs, compiling extensive works on the subject. Professor Muhammad Asad emphasizes that the existence of fabricated hadith does not indicate a weakness in the hadith system as a whole, because it was not hidden from the muhaddithun (scholars of hadith). Imam Abu al-Muzaffar al-Sam'ani said that hadith only became mixed up for the ignorant, whereas scholars distinguish their falsehood. So, how could the fabrications of heretics be accepted by them? And the one who makes this claim deserves to have his mouth stuffed and be banished from the land of Islam.
