What is the response to one who says: If your Lord says about the Quran: "Indeed, We are its guardians," then what will you say about the Sunnah of your Prophet, which has been distorted and contains weak and fabricated hadiths?

This misconception carries its own answer within it. Muslims do not accept everything attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him; rather, they distinguish the authentic from the inauthentic through conditions and criteria established by hadith (definition) scholars. This science is unique to Muslims, prompting the orientalist Margoliouth to say: "Let Muslims boast as much as they wish about their science of hadith." The ignorance of some Muslims regarding this science and the efforts of scholars within it is the root cause of this misconception. Sheikh Al-Mu'allimi pointed out that attempts to impugn the Sunnah (definition) stem from the failure of attempts to impugn the Quran, and an exploitation of Muslims' ignorance of hadith science. The hadith scholars exerted tremendous efforts in critiquing and scrutinizing narrations to preserve the Sunnah from distortion and fabrication. This effort is a source of pride for Muslims and a testament to Allah's preservation of His Prophet's Sunnah.
