Is it permissible to consider the Sunnah as an elucidation and complement to the Qur’an, rather than contradictory to it, and to rule that any hadith that contradicts the Qur’an or introduces a new legislation is fabricated, taking into account the weakness of many later Sunnah narrations, and the statement of some early scholars that the number of authentic hadiths is far less than what is currently circulated?

The established Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, explains, clarifies, and elaborates on the Quran, and does not contradict it. The rulings it brought are binding upon us, for Allah Almighty says: "Nor does he speak from [personal] inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed," (Quran 53:3-4) and His saying: "And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from." (Quran 59:7) The claim that Hadith contradicts the Quran is false, for whatever is authentically attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, does not contradict the Quran, because both are revelations from Allah. One who studies the Sharia must view it with an eye of perfection and be certain that there is no contradiction between the Quran and the Sunnah. As for disparaging scholars, it is a mistake, for they are the inheritors of the prophets.
