If a wife leaves her home without her husband's permission, she is considered disobedient (nashiz), and her right to financial support (nafaqah) is forfeited, unless she is pregnant. He has the right to discipline her, admonish her, forsake her in bed, and strike her. He also has the right to involve wise individuals to mediate between them. If divorce is deemed to be in their best interest, he may separate from her. Divorce does not occur merely by agreement, but rather by verbal declaration or written statement with the intention of effecting it. A divorced woman is entitled to her deferred dowry (mu'akhkhar al-sadaq) unless she waives it.
