What are the limits of a wife’s obedience to her husband, and is it a condition for her to be convinced of her husband’s request in order to fulfill it, especially if the request does not involve disobedience to Allah and she is capable of doing it, regarding matters such as: her posting content on Facebook that arouses suspicion, like pictures of unveiled actresses, or liking songs, or speaking with non-mahram men, and her riding in a car with a male colleague, and her insistence on visiting her mother daily?
Allah has made the husband the maintainer (qawwam) of his wife, and has made it obligatory upon her to obey him in what is good. His right over her is great; he has more authority over her than her parents, and obedience to him is more incumbent. The wife must obey her husband in matters of marriage and related affairs, and her conviction in the matter is not a condition. It is not permissible for her to leave his house except out of necessity, or with his permission. He should not prevent her from visiting her parents according to common custom. She must obey him in matters pertaining to her preservation and his jealousy over her, such as preventing her from riding in a car with her non-mahram male colleague, from speaking with non-mahrams unnecessarily, and from anything that involves temptation for her or through her on social media, and from publishing anything that involves disobedience. Indeed, men are maintainers of women by obligating them to fulfill the rights of Allah and by restraining them from corruption. As for the fiancé, he is a stranger to his fiancée until the marriage contract is concluded.
