Is it obligatory for the family to maintain ties of kinship with their maternal uncle who has been bewitched by his wife, and who does not visit his mother, and relatives fear visiting him out of concern for the witchcraft, and only two of his brothers who work with him see him?
Sorcery is one of the gravest major sins, akin to polytheism (), and one of the seven destructive sins. The sorcerer must be advised to repent sincerely. Protection from the evil of sorcery can be achieved by observing the prescribed remembrances (adhkar), such as the morning and evening adhkar, reciting Ayat al-Kursi, al-, al-Mu'awwidhatayn (Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas), and the concluding verses of Surah al-Baqarah. The maternal uncle should be advised to maintain ties of kinship, especially with his mother. Kinship ties with the maternal uncle can be maintained through phone calls or gifts if direct contact would result in harm.
