When is it permissible for a traveler to shorten and combine prayers (qasr and jam‘), what is the method of prayer on an airplane, does the shortening and combining continue after arriving in the home country if the distance from the area of residence is 75-80 km, what is the method and duration of wiping over socks (mash ‘alal jawrab), is it permissible to forgo wiping and perform full ablution (wudu’) instead, and which time zone should a traveler rely on for shortening and combining prayers when there is a difference in takeoff and arrival times between countries?
A traveler shortens the prayer upon departing from the buildings of his city, but he does not shorten it in the airport of his city. He is permitted to avail himself of the concessions of travel once the airplane takes off. He prays on the plane standing if he is able, otherwise sitting, gesturing for his bowing and prostration, making his prostration lower. The journey ends upon the traveler's arrival at his city or village, or the place where he intends to reside for a period that prevents him from availing himself of the concessions. If the airport he arrives at is not in his city, he is permitted to avail himself of the concessions until he reaches his city. Wiping over the khuffs (leather socks) is a concession, and the duration for a traveler to wipe is three days and nights, beginning from the first nullification of ablution after wearing them. The traveler prays according to the place he is in at the time of prayer.
