A girl has the right to refuse a man she does not wish to marry. The father does not have the right to compel his daughter in this matter, and she is not considered disobedient. Obedience to parents is due in matters that benefit them and do not harm the child. It is advisable to obey them in what is good to gain their pleasure, for "the pleasure of the Lord is in the pleasure of the parent, and the displeasure of the Lord is in the displeasure of the parent."
