Will all believers be tormented in their graves, or are these satanic whispers, especially since entry into Paradise is by Allah’s mercy, not by deeds?

Praise be to Allah for repentance. Fear of Allah’s punishment is commendable as long as it does not lead to despair of Allah’s mercy. Commendable fear motivates diligence in obedience and repentance. Entering Paradise by Allah’s mercy does not negate the value of deeds, for deeds are a cause for entering it and a cause for attaining Allah’s mercy, which is only attained by those who strive diligently in obedience and perfect their deeds.

The torment of the grave is a reality for those who deserve it. In the Two Sahihs, it is narrated that the believer’s grave is expanded for him, and he sees his place in Paradise, while the disbeliever or hypocrite is tormented. The believer enjoys comfort in his grave, and his good deeds come to him to give him glad tidings. One must combine fear and hope in their journey to Allah, for love is its head, and fear and hope are its two wings.
