Do pure, wet things become impure if they touch dry impurity, and does a sweaty hand become impure if it touches something on which impurity has dried?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a pure, wet object encounters an impure object from which the essence of impurity has been removed, then the pure object does not become impure according to some jurists, such as the Hanbalis, whereas it does become impure according to the Shafi'is and the Hanafis. However, it is more apparent that the questioner is afflicted with waswasah (obsessive doubts) concerning purification. The default state of things is purity, and certainty is not removed by doubt. One must be cautious about persisting in this waswasah.
