The marriage of a Muslim woman to a disbeliever (kafir) is invalid by scholarly consensus, based on the Almighty's saying: "And do not marry [your women] to idolaters until they believe." The ruling on such a marriage is that of adultery (zina), and separation between the two parties is obligatory.
