Should one confront an ungrateful colleague about her behavior, and is the shortcoming from me or from her? What is the nature of the required relationship with colleagues? Should everyone be treated equally, or is it permissible to show preference based on character? What is meant by moderation in love, economy in praise, fairness in treatment, temperance in companionship, and adherence to Islamic law in social interaction?

The principle is that a Muslim should reciprocate good with good, and if unable to do so, then with supplication, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded. A Muslim should also think well of others and find excuses for them, as some people are naturally taciturn. Moreover, a Muslim can accuse themselves of shortcomings. It is possible to gently and affectionately confront the friend to understand the reason for her behavior. The approach of Islam is moderation and balance in all matters, including love and hatred, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "And thus We have made you a ‫just community (a middle nation)" and the Prophet's, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "Love your beloved moderately, for he may become your hated one someday. And hate your hated one moderately, for he may become your beloved one someday."
