What is the ruling of the Sharia on a mother preventing her children from communicating with each other, and is it obligatory to obey her in this, given the sin of her anger if her command is not complied with; and is it sinful for whoever secretly conveys to her news of their communication?

Maintaining kinship ties among siblings is obligatory, and severing them is one of the major sins. It is not permissible for a mother to command her children to sever ties of kinship, and obeying her in this regard is forbidden, because "there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to God." Indeed, disobeying the mother's command in this situation is an act of filial piety towards her. The children must advise their mother with wisdom and compassion and resolve any problem that may exist. The slanderer who conveys news of communication between the children to their mother commits a great sin, for backbiting is one of the major sins. It is incumbent upon the one who conveys such news to fear God and strive for reconciliation.
