Do the grandchildren of a deceased daughter inherit from their grandmother?

Grandchildren are considered kin (dhawu al-arham) and do not inherit when there are primary heirs (ashab al-furud) or residuary heirs (asabat). It is commendable for the deceased to bequeath to them a third of their estate or less. If no such bequest is made, it is commendable, though not obligatory, for the heirs to give them something from the estate, based on Allah's saying: "But those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allah than others" and His saying: "For men is a share of what the parents and close relatives leave."
