What is the ruling on extremists in Tajwid rules who care more about them than the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his companions did, and who criticize famous reciters and the imams of the Two Holy Mosques, and alienate people from the word of Allah?

Reciting the Qur’an while observing the rules of Tajwid is good, but over-elaborating on the articulation of the Qur’anic letters and exaggerating them is a blameworthy affectation, and it may lead to criticism from others. It also distracts from reflecting upon the Qur’an and acting upon it. What is required from the reciter is clarity of letters, measured recitation (tartil), and deliberateness, not exaggeration or excessive scrupulousness (waswasa). As for the rules of Tajwid, if abandoning a rule corrupts the meaning, then it is obligatory to observe it. If it does not corrupt the meaning, then it is recommended, and people should not be compelled to observe it. A bearer of the Qur’an should not mock those who make mistakes in Tajwid, nor should he act arrogantly with his knowledge, for knowledge is sought for the sake of Allah, and mockery is forbidden.
