What is the ruling on placing honey on the navel for medicinal purposes?

There is no harm in applying honey to the navel or other body parts for medicinal purposes. Some scholars have mentioned the permissibility of anointing with it. However, the preferred method of treatment is by drinking it, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "If there is any good in any of your remedies, it is in a cupper's scar, or a drink of honey." And his saying concerning one whose stomach was upset: "Give him honey to drink." The Prophet (peace be upon him) himself used to drink honey mixed with cold water.
