Is praying in detail better or praying concisely?

There is no absolute preference for one of the two methods of supplication, whether detailed or concise. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had three ways in his supplications: detailing by mentioning the invoked, or conciseness by generalizing, or combining both. The advantage of conciseness is that it includes both the detailed and the non-detailed, helps in persistence, and is often more appropriate in address, unless there is a specific reason that necessitates detailing. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, liked comprehensive supplications. The jurists agreed on theability of generalizing in supplication, but this does not prevent combining generalization and specification for a particular reason. It was reported from the Salaf that they named those for whom they supplicated in detail. As for the manners of supplicating for others, they include: not restricting the supplication to only those mentioned by name, offering oneself first if supplicating for oneself and others, and the permissibility of supplicating for a specific person by name outside of prayer. Jurists differed on this matter concerning prayer.
