What is the ruling on selling goods before taking possession of them?

It is impermissible to sell goods before they arrive and are possessed by the merchant, due to the prohibition of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding that. This prohibition is a safeguard against disputes and regrets between the seller and the buyer in the event the goods are damaged or do not conform to specifications, even if the buyer initially agrees.
