What should I do, as I have vowed to perform a prostration of gratitude every day, even though I know that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did not do that daily, and am I sinful for this vow despite not knowing that it is disliked?

Scholars have differed regarding the permissibility of prostration of thankfulness (sujud al-shukr). The Shafi'is and Hanbalis hold that it is recommended upon the renewal of a blessing or the warding off of a calamity, and according to them, a vow to perform it must be fulfilled. As for the Malikis, they consider it disliked (makruh), and they dislike vowing to perform it and fulfilling such a vow. Furthermore, those who affirm the recommendation of prostration of thankfulness have stipulated that it is not prescribed for the continuation of blessings.
