Is reading translated foreign novels forbidden (haram) and a waste of time?

There is no objection to reading Arabic or foreign novels if they are free from promoting immorality and inciting desires. However, refraining from them is more preferable, because time is a person's capital, and he should spend it on what benefits him in his religion and his worldly life.
