What is the ruling on the fluid, "al-wady," that is discharged after masturbation, and does its presence on clothing necessitate ghusl and purification of the clothes for prayer to be valid?

Al-Wadi is a thick white fluid that exits after urination or when lifting something heavy. It is impure (najis) and necessitates istinja’ (cleansing the private parts with water) and invalidates ablution (tahara). It must be removed for the prayer to be valid. Scholars have unanimously agreed upon its impurity, with the exception of Ibn Daqiq al-Eid, who transmitted a narration from Ahmad regarding its purity.

Jurists have agreed that it invalidates ablution.

The majority of jurists hold that there is no pardon for a small amount of al-Wadi, in contrast to the Hanafis, who believe there is a pardon for an amount equivalent to a dirham.

As for the Shafi’is, they pardon what cannot be perceived by a moderate eye, while the Malikis do not pardon a small amount of al-Wadi.

The Hanbalis consider it impure absolutely and do not pardon even a small amount of it.

Therefore, one must perform istinja’ from it and wash clothes and the body if it gets on them, then perform ablution for prayer.
