What is the ruling on paying money to a soothsayer who foretold the possibility of travel, and is it permissible to give this money as a gift to the one who paid it on my behalf?
Consulting soothsayers and believing them is a grave major sin, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever comes to a soothsayer or a diviner and believes what he says, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him." And in another narration: "Whoever comes to him without believing him, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days."
The does not obligate paying money as a fee to a soothsayer; rather, it is impermissible.
