Why was Surat Al-Hujurat revealed?

The reasons for the revelation of the verses of Surah Al-Hujurat are manifold: Verses (1-5) were revealed concerning the story of Abu Bakr and Umar raising their voices in the presence of the Prophet, and some people calling out to him from behind the private chambers. Verses (6-8) were revealed due to Al-Walid ibn Uqbah's false report about Al-Harith ibn Abi Dirar. As for verse (9), it was revealed regarding a conflict that occurred between the Prophet's companions. Verse (11) was revealed to prohibit insulting with nicknames, as some companions disliked being called by their nicknames. Finally, verse (17) was revealed concerning the delegation of Bani Asad, who boasted of their conversion to Islam to the Messenger.
