The answer

The exegetes did not mention a reason for the revelation of the entire Yunus or its first verse. Rather, they mentioned the reason for the revelation of the second verse: {Was it a wonder to the people that We revealed to a man from among them} [Qur’an 10:2], which was that the Arabs found it strange that the Messenger of Allah was a human being. Allah then responded to them with this. When they persisted in their astonishment, saying: "Why was not this Qur'an sent down to a great man from among the two towns?" [Qur’an 43:31] meaning Al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah or Urwah ibn Mas'ud al-Thaqafi, Allah sent down in response to them: {Is it they who apportion the mercy of your Lord?} [Qur’an 43:32]. Other than that, no reason for revelation has been mentioned for the rest of the Surah.
