Is a son considered undutiful to his parents if his political views differ from theirs, and he believes his views are closer to the religion of God, while these differences have caused his parents grief?
It is not considered disobedience to disagree with one's parents regarding an issue for which there is no shar'i (religious legal) evidence to support its superiority. However, the child should not openly express their disagreement to them and should strive to please them in ways that do not violate . If the parent's command or prohibition stems merely from foolishness, it should not be heeded. However, if a parent commands their child to perform a permissible act that does not cause hardship to the child, and the parent would suffer significant harm if the child does not obey, then the child must obey, unless the parent's insistence arises from foolishness and lack of intellect. The child is not obligated to obey their parent's command to adhere to their (school of thought), as there is no valid purpose in doing so; rather, it is an act of foolishness. Despite all this, the child must be careful not to disobey their parent.
