How can I protect myself from despairing of God's mercy and forgiveness?
Allah is Forgiving and Merciful; He forgives the sins of those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds, as Allah the Almighty said: "And indeed, I am the All-Forgiving to whoever repents, believes, and does righteousness, and then is guided." And those who remember Allah, seek forgiveness for their sins, and do not persist in what they have done, Allah forgives them and transforms their evil deeds into good deeds, as stated in His saying: "Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will change their evil deeds into good ones. And Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful." Allah has forbidden His servants from despairing of His mercy, so He said: "Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful." This is for those who turn away from sins. And whoever is tempted by his soul to do evil deeds, then he should remember that the punishment of Allah is severe.
