How can a woman reconcile her need to marry a committed man who asks her to quit her job, with the necessity of continuing to work to support her parents who have no provider other than her?
The maintenance of parents is obligatory upon capable children. If there are multiple children, the maintenance is distributed according to each one's capacity. If the daughter is the sole provider for her parents, it is not permissible for her to quit her job to support them, especially given her need to marry. Therefore, she should discuss with the suitor the necessity of her work to support her parents. If the suitor does not understand, she should consider other solutions, such as the husband bearing the parents' expenses, or her reducing her working hours, or her relatives intervening to support the parents, as this is their duty in maintaining kinship ties.
