What is the ruling on divorce with the phrase "al-battah" according to Umar ibn al-Khattab: Is it one revocable divorce, one irrevocable divorce, or three irrevocable divorces (baynunah kubra), and what is his evidence?

Divorce pronounced with the word "battah" (finally/absolutely) is considered a single divorce according to Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, as reported in two narrations:

1. From al-Muttalib ibn Hantab, that Umar asked him about the reason he said to his wife, "You are divorced with an absolute divorce (battah)." Then Umar recited two verses from the Quran and said, "The single one makes it absolute (tabuttu); take your wife back, it is one [divorce]." 2. From Hammad, from Ibrahim, from Umar concerning the phrases "khaliyah" (empty), "bariyah" (free), "battah" (absolute), and "ba'inah" (final): "It is one [divorce], and he has more right to her [to take her back]."
