Is it permissible to re-read and repeat a Surah in the obligatory and supererogatory prayers within the same day?

Some scholars dislike repeating the same surah after Al-Fatihah in both rak'ahs during obligatory prayers, but not during supererogatory prayers. Others permit it absolutely, citing the Prophet's (PBUH) recitation of Surat Az-Zalzalah in both rak'ahs.

As for repeating the same surah within a single rak'ah, the Malikis disliked it in obligatory prayers but not in supererogatory ones. There is no evidence in the Sunnah to suggest that the Prophet (PBUH) did this, especially in obligatory prayers, so the opinion against it is valid. Repeating Al-Fatihah within a single rak'ah is disliked, and some scholars have deemed the prayer invalid if done so.

It is permissible to consistently recite a specific surah, provided one believes that others are also permissible. This permissibility is supported by the action of the Companion who consistently recited Surat Al-Ikhlas after Al-Fatihah in every rak'ah, and the Prophet (PBUH) approved of it.
