Why does the sacrifice in the 'Aqiqah differ between male and female, with one sheep for the girl and two for the boy?

The aqiqah is a recommended Sunnah: two sheep for a boy and one sheep for a girl. If one slaughters one sheep for both, it is sufficient and he has fulfilled the essence of the Sunnah.

It is obligatory for a Muslim to submit to Allah's command. However, there is no harm in seeking the wisdom behind the Divine Law. If you do not know it, then that is due to a lack of knowledge and limited understanding.

Some scholars have mentioned that the wisdom behind this is the preference given to the male over the female, as is well-known in the rulings of Sharia, such as in testimony, inheritance, blood money (diyah), and emancipation. Thus, the aqiqah came in this manner.
