Is marriage to a girl whose father works as a Food and Beverage Manager in a hotel that serves alcohol permissible (halal)?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a girl is religious, her father's engagement in a prohibited or dubious profession does not prevent marriage to her. The fundamental criterion for marriage is the woman's religiosity, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A woman is married for four reasons: for her wealth, for her lineage, for her beauty, and for her religion. So, choose the religious one, and you will prosper."

The Islamic legal principle states that every soul bears its own burden: "And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another."

However, one must avoid the father's money if his entire income is derived from this prohibited work, in accordance with the general verse: "And cooperate not in sin and aggression." The father should also be advised gently and wisely to abandon this profession.
