What is the value of the legal blood money (Diyya) for someone killed by mistake, and what are the consequences of being unable to pay it, given that the victim's family is demanding half a million pounds and does not accept charity?

If a car accident results in a fatality, either the driver took safety precautions and followed traffic laws but was unable to avoid the accident, in which case there is no sin, no expiation (kaffara), and no blood money (diya) upon him. Or, he was negligent or careless, in which case blood money and expiation are due, along with repentance.

The blood money is to be paid by the 'aqila (the male relatives on the father's side), and its amount is one hundred camels, or one thousand gold dinars, or their equivalent in local currencies. It remains a debt until paid.

The expiation is the freeing of a believing slave. If one cannot find a slave, then fasting for two consecutive months. If one is unable to fast, then feeding sixty poor people.
